Mayor Menino's Public Edict that Prohibits Catholics from Working in Boston

Let's get this straight:

Mayor Menino and our fellow countrymen are now going to prevent people who follow the edits of God from owning or operating a business?

Menino is a Catholic. I keep refreshing my browser on the Cardinal's blog and the Pilot to see if he is going to publicly address the Mayor's malicious edict of discrimination, but so far, it's a goose egg.

Surprisingly, there are no announcements saying Mayor Menino is doing irreparable harm to the community of the faithful or a grave disservice to the Church, as he has repeatedly done to prolife advocates on his blog.

Maybe I'm reading into things too much, but you don't suppose the Cardinal Archbishop is tipping his hand about his personal convictions, do you?

I don't know what else to think.

But the Catholic Mayor of Boston delivers an edict in the public square that anyone who holds a personal conviction that is in compliance with the tenets of the Catholic religion is prohibited from operating a business in Boston and the Cardinal Archbishop is sitting silent on the sidelines.

Open the Cardinal's newspaper. Read the Cardinal's blog. When he says nothing, you'll know its him.

The illegal and discriminatory nature of Menino's threat is astoundingly frightening in the operation of a government.

What legal right does the Mayor of Boston have to get into the underpants of people who sell chicken and create public policies that our private, personal and religious convictions will prohibit us from operating a business? Our personal convictions about marriage have nothing whatsoever to do with selling chicken or doing any other business in Boston.

A public escalation of antiCatholicism and discrimination that we cannot let stand.

They're not even waiting for the mandate to do the damage passive/aggressively. Menino and Rahm Emanuel are coming right out and saying Catholics who hold personal convictions of their Church - and those who agree with them, shall not earn a living. They are to be discriminated against and the discrimination is starting at City Hall.

The Mayor of Boston and his thugs of intolerance can whip up a frenzy to destroy or kill us and there is not a peep from the weenies in the Chancery.

What a disgusting turn of events in a country that was founded on freedom.

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts today rejected the so-called "clarification" issued by Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino regarding his threat to block a business license for a proposed Hub branch of a restaurant chain whose owner is an outspoken critic of same gender marriage. Menino told Chick-fil-A owner Dan Cathy that his chain engaged in "discrimination", and that it was not welcome in the City of Boston.

Menino has now backpedaled saying that he was only expressing "a personal opinion" and using his office as "a bully pulpit."

The Catholic Action League called the Mayor's clarification "entirely disingenuous and self-serving."

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle stated: "Even if Mayor Menino recognizes that his threatened opposition to Chick-fil-A was constitutionally indefensible and legally unenforceable, he is still sending an unmistakable message to those who do business in Boston that unless you are on the right side of the homosexual community, you will be on wrong side of City Hall. One cannot discount the intimidation value of Menino's words towards a compliant Boston business community notoriously subservient to the demands of the Mayor."

"No one should trivialize this episode. Menino was effectively calling for overt, government sponsored discrimination against practicing Catholics, Evangelicals, Orthodox Jews, Muslims, and other religious believers who accept the biblical definition of marriage. Evidently, the mayor saw no irony in attempting to penalize Chick-fil-A for agreeing with a fundamental moral teaching of the religion which Menino allegedly professes."

I didn't realize the Office of the Mayor was a bully pulpit for religious bigots to keep people out of business.

Now that he's clarified that keeping Catholics from feeding, clothing and putting a roof over the heads of their families is an operation headed by Menino that takes place under the radar of the mayors office, we can all relax.

Those of you who are blessed enough to read the Magnificat, read about Blessed eore Swallowel yeesterday. He was a protestant minister, who converted when debated with a man imprisoned for his Catholic faith. During the debates, he found himself losin and recognized the fallacy of his own beliefs. Not long afterwards, he mounted the pulpit of his church to announce that he had been in error in professing the protestant reliion and would no longer do services there. He was arrested and tried along with two Catholic priests in 1594. Tortured, he areed to recant and conform to the protestant religion. A Father Boste, who was tortured along with him asked "George Swallowell, what have you done!" Immediately he repented of his lapse and repudiated his words. He was drawn and quartered with merciless brutality on July 26, 1594.

The Chic fil A spokesperson was also drawn and quartered. May the angels and saints and martyrs come to greet this poor man and console his family and friends.

Anyone know where the 'before the end of the year' came from?

I bounced this off a most reasonable, faithful friend, and he said that this absolutely means without any doubt whatsoever that the decision about Medjugorje will be negative. He said no decision can be made positively about any apparitions while they are ongoing. Since the apparitions are continuous, daily, non-stop, this means that the only possible decision will be that the apparitions are not consonant with anything supernatural, or something even more negative than that, but nothing positive, except maybe to say some nice things about conversions that have taken place there, etc., trying to save any good that could have taken place just because so many people were involved from all over the world.

Of course much good has taken place from 30 years of an assembly where Mary's children gather to pray, ask for her intercession, protection, guidance? No matter where people of good will assemble to seek her, she responds. She responds to you, the people gathered around you, the grace from all of it is palpable. But, whether the people claiming Mary is appearing to them daily is an authentic apparition, that is a mutually-exclusive issue. The two shouldn't be confused.

No matter what happens, the devil will have a field day claiming the Holy See hates the Blessed Mother, women, etc. They are careful with apparitions. I kinda know the feeling.

The confirmations Mary has historically sent to affirm authenticity have been in abstentia for 30 years.

There has always been a pointed message or messages. They are disclosed right away. The recipient of the message is given explicit and complicated theology to give to the local priest, bishop, pope, which he or she could not possibly know given his or her education and resources. Roses in the dead of winter evolve into miraculous tilmas as the skepticism continues. I believe (please chime in if I'm mistaken) every recipient of an authentic message went on to devote themselves to a vocation in religious life. Etc.

The messages Mary is purportedly giving at Medjugorge have lacked substance for 30 years.

All circus, no elephants.

All mouth and trousers.

Big hat, no cattle.

All fur coat, no knickers.

If true the hammer is coming down, it will be interesting to watch the reaction of the recipients of the messages. If it were me and they were really happening, well, I wouldn't be out in public making a circus of it in the first place - but if I were silly enough to believe the devil couldn't fool me and I was, all this time, really seeing something and not faking it for money - I'd be excusing myself to the fata morgana, moseying on to the best priest in the area who is familiar with the wiles of the devil and arming myself with tools and devotions. Practice them 24/7. Fast. Pray in front of the Eucharist. Apologize profusely and direct people to the Holy See, Fatima - etc. - so as to not cause scandal, derision or hostility.

I have a feeling in my gut poop it isn't going to go that way, but pray I'm wrong.

Cardinal Weurl and Fr. Guarnizo

Lord of the World seems to be the theme of the week.

This woman came into the sanctuary before Mass and maliciously blasphemed the teachings of the Church. Accordingly, the priest had no choice but to apply the Canons of the Catholic Church and follow the instructions of the Holy See.

The goats are being separated from the sheep and the episcopal wolves are being separated from the true shepherds.

You cannot serve two masters.

I am not basing my observation that Weurl is a wolf on one circumstance or even a dozen. But after a couple of dozen situations where the same theme emerges, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, talks like a duck and it quacks - its a duck.

I am also not making an observation about the state of his soul. I do not proclaim to know his accountability.

Maybe the man is a maroon or has some other kind of impediment or disability that releases him from accountability. Maybe he, like Peter, struggles with cowardice and will at some point in the future grow a spine, face Nero and be hanged upside down in the future. Prayers are in order.

But let us be clear.

When the lack of mental clarity is a consequence of unrepented sin and fruit of rebelling against Church teaching, the theology of the Catholic Church enlightens us that we are suffering from the illness and contamination of the mind because our soul is sick. A sick soul produces thoughts and behaviors that lead us to take actions that cause our own destruction.

Church teaching explains the theology with Judas' betrayal of Christ and rebellious reception of the Eucharist. Scripture duly notes that devil entered him. Drove him to his own madness and suicide.

This is not to say that everyone who commits suicide is therefore condemned or culpable. In the circumstances with Judas, he was the beneficiary of the Presence of Christ, the Divine Physician and there was no other physical or mental malady that caused him to destroy himself. It was pure, unadulterated sin. The devil entered his soul, took possession and drove him to suicide.

That's what Scripture says. His soul was sick and in that state he received the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. The devil entered him. Why? Because the devil is after Christ. Since he is alienated from Christ he needs souls to receive Him and then works through human weakness and sin to accumulate souls. It's a contest.

When a physician of the soul denies a Sacrament, he is not only acting on Christ's behalf, he is acting on behalf of the soul. Diminishing the efficacy of the devil.

Who in hell would punish a priest for carrying out the instructions of the Holy See?

Oh...wait! Everyone in hell would.

What side is Cardinal Weurl on?

God does not come to collect departed souls mastered by the devil to take them to heaven. The devil collects his own.

Under these circumstances, when every single tool has been afforded us, when Christ has afforded us every opportunity to be enlightened about Church teaching, when He has sent His missionaries to provide us the opportunity to repent and drive out sin with the Sacrament of Confession, to possess our soul with His Presence, when we have been fortunate enough to be blessed and called and enlightened and guided - against our own will with the Sacrament of the Eucharist and we reject and rebel and sin, and as a result we are not in our right mind -- under these circumstances, according to the irrefutable teaching of Christ's Church on salvation, this kind of mental confusion is the first portion of of our sentence that is leading us to the destruction of our soul. If one continues on that path they will remain in that state after your death in perpetuity.

There is no redemption for soul that dies in this state, whether through natural death or self destruction.

The purpose of His Execution was to disclose His Intellect through the Catechism, which is and forever shall be a living doctrine. We are to accept the Deposit of His Intellect with the faith of a child, even when we don't understand it, like it or we have desires that contradict its precepts. He left us the safety net of the Sacraments to fortify us against temptation, absolve us from sin, drive out demons and infuse us with the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit.

God did not Incarnate and suffer His Own Execution to literally leave us His Intellect and Sacraments of His Church on earth so that we could reject it, rebel against it, tempt and seduce others with our vanities and desires and still be given an opportunity to enter Heaven.

There is no amount of feeding the poor that will pardon sins. Charity is not the conduit of salvation and cannot be used to leverage your sin. Charity does not absolve you of sin. The Sacrament of Confession is the only source of absolution. Our salvation solely and completely relies upon accepting the Deposit of God's Intellect in the Catechism of His Church, confessing and being absolved of our sins in the Sacrament of Confession and the promise to commitment to avoid the sin in the future.

There is one exception to this. There are certain circumstances that are known only to God when ordained man, be it a priest or a bishop will be held accountable.

Let's dissect it.

There may be a circumstance where a soul has had access to all of the gifts of Christ's Intellect and Sacraments but is not the sharpest tool in the shed or has had parents who struggled, etc. They are tempted by a peer early on in life. The priest in the local parish operates a clapping promiscuity center. The local bishop encourages, praises, supports and protects the clapping fornication center. He hires people who reject Church teaching themselves to teach the little children in all the schools in the archdiocese. Innocent children are indoctrinated into the clapping promiscuity under the Crucifix of Christ. The whole situation is exploited by the local press with a secular agenda and uncatechized adults get sucked into the vacuum.

Under these circumstances, the souls abandoned and abused by them for the purposes of animating their self-esteem and self-love may or may not be held accountable. The priest and bishop will be held accountable for the loss of souls. Alternately, Adam and Eve and Adam and Steve, the priest, the bishop - could all be toast.

In times like these in the history of the world, the bar gradually gets higher and higher. Stakes get higher. The devil takes advantage of weaknesses and flaws. There is a sifting.

This is what we can take to the bank:

"Therefore do not be afraid of them.

Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed,

nor secret that will not be known.

What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light;

what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.

And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;

Good friends lent me the book last year but I've had a wee bit of trouble getting into it. As a general principle, fiction and I don't get along. I know this is a masterpiece,but a front row seat to ground zero in Boston for twenty years has made me more prone to finding refuge in reading.

I absolutely loved Fr. Schall's review posted earlier this week ar Crisis.. In fact, the last few lines made me cry.

I'm going to pick up the book again this weekend.

The use of the word Catholic on an apostolate is granted by the local Bishops for this rubbish. I used to get flustered by the gutless Episcopal cowardice who feed their flock this nonsense. I can't take the three-ring circus around the Sacred Liturgy. For those of us who know what is happening and quite literally transport ourselves to the moments in the praetorium to the Resurrection, some of the antics going on are downright asinine.

Thankfully, the next generation of priests are being trained differently. Eventually, the jesters who are desperate for attention and place themselves in the Sanctuary to hijack the Liturgy will fade into oblivion.

Medjugorge

I know many solid Catholics and priests who are convinced that Our Blessed Mother is appearing in Medjugore. The Holy See has not made a determination and so we are free to do so.

I admit to being very curious when I first heard about it but I became skeptical early when when of the visionaries lives (or lived) in the North End of Boston claimed Our Lady rearranged her appearance when a time conflict arose in a local parish. The traveling circus shows like this one deepen my convictions but are certainly not the only reason I am a skeptic.

It feels like the Holy See has been dragging its feet but whatever their judgment, I trust the decision will come in God's time.

The Gilligan of the GOP: Mitt Romney

Least I confuse anyone with this post, I'll start it by saying that no matter what it takes to oust Obama from the White House, we have to hold our nose and do it. I am not willing to endorse Romney. I can't even bring myself to say anything positive about him. He is a pathological liar. He'll institute the same agenda as Obama while calling it pro-life as weak pro-life leaders salute. If we elect him, we're electing a disaster.

The most accurate thing said about Romney was said by Rudy Guliani.

"This is a man without a core, a man without substance, a man that will say anything to become president of the United States."

Right on the money.

But, Romney is not a communist bent on destroying the Republic. And, he is not actively working with the muslim brotherhood to overthrow nations for al queda. No matter what Romney is or isn't, these two threats under a second term for Obama are malicious enough to humanity to vote for Romney. Moreover, damage under Romney will be somewhat limited by the GOP.

We are voting against Obama in November. Period. End of story.

So, having said that, it would be difficult for anyone following the news this week to deny that Romney is a trainwreck.


The more Romney opens his mouth and contradicts himself, the more the GOP feels the bullet in their foot.

Boehner is candidly acknowledging the trainwreck publicly.

The evangelicals are not committed enough for a ground game. Neither are Catholic prolifers. In fact, we're a few months away and I have yet to see a ground game.

The only positive thing that could come out of electing Obama for a second term is that we will finally see the end of Romney's political career. The GOP would not be dumb enough to dust him off and reinvent him for 2016.

An employee at the supernatural establishment tells us, Maria wanted info on 4 or 5 energy crystals, including amethyst and cactus quartz.

Amethyst is supposedly used for calming, and cactus quartz for communication. Both stones bring positive energy into your life -- ALLEGEDLY.

Maria also jawboned with the psychic in a back room, where the two discussed personal "life stuff."


I'm fascinated when I see Catholics who appear ignorant of the properties that exist in the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.

I'm actually blown away by it.

I'll be the first to admit that the substance of my communications need polishing, I'm in need of serenity or some zipideedooda, but I am at least conscience of where the supplies to replenish my animus exist. I am more conscience of the supply and my need to replenish as I am food and water.

And truly, when we live this way, the supply stays within earshot to guide us from saying or doing foolish things. The supply, quite literally, speaks to us. Warns. Shouts when we are are too wound up in our infirmities to hear the gentle guidance.

How does a Catholic ever get to a point where they would even cross the threshold of store that warehouses a psychic and widgets that emanate spiritual power without asking themselves who the author of that power is...and run like hell?

When someone sets up a store to sell pebbles that claim to be animated with powers, are people so gullible they don't even ask how the pebbles work?

Even if one were invincibly ignorant about the two sources of such power, angelic and demonic, wouldn't one at least even try to figure out if the gypsies were scamming you?

Helllooooooooo.

Even in my worst days of rebellion, I retained enough instincts for self-preservation not to buy magical rocks.

I'm astounded when Catholics are ignorant of where demons congregate and how they operate. How do you get to the point in your life where the people around you would let you swim in the dung?

If a picture ever posted of me coming out of one of these stores, my phone would start ringing. I'd have emails from friends, fellow practicing Catholics, priests. They would be reminding me of the spiritual dangers inherent. There would be less commotion in my life if I were eyeballing crack pipes!

I don't understand how a practicing Catholic, especially a public personality like Shriver, could find herself giddy over magical rocks and gypsies.

Earlier this week, two demoniacs approached Christ as he was moseying down to Gadarenes. The Scriptures tell us they were so savage that nobody could even travel by the road. Christ dispensed with them, but 99.9% of the time, we are unaware of their presence and treachery. If we are living our lives for the sole purpose of maintaining a state of grace and we have our own behavior under the microscope, we eventually feel the presence of their animus and we drive it out with the Sacraments.

Let me tell you something with 100% certainty: Any locus selling or featuring magical stones or clairvoyant persons who claim to see the future or past or the dead, the demons are congregating and looking for a sucker.

Accordingly, stay away from these places.

I make the sign of the cross as I pass them. Prayerfully denounce the power of demons and pray for the souls who are imprisoned by them, the suckers whom they will attract, tempt, play with and torment. And while I'm at it, I pray for priests and Bishops who watch them and do and say nothing.

We could have done a lot worse. Our brothers and sisters in the Latin Rite Community are not very happy..at all. but Fr. Z is not ready to burn the town down just yet. I realize this and three dollars will buy you a latte at Mickey D's but I was never as optimistic as Fellay.

A mighty good kick-off. How long should we wait before we indoctrinate him with the paper trails? What do you say we sign him up for the National Catholic Reporter and America Magazine? Let him chew on those for a couple of months before we fill up his office with the sissyfestos?
